Camp Devens was one of 16 National Army Cantonments. It eventually became a permanent post and was renamed Fort Devens. It was action during WWII. It ended up on the 1991 base closure list. There is area south of the main cantonment the army retained as Devens Reserve forces training area. The former base was incorporated into a new town called Devens.

Camp Bartlett was a mobilization camp for the 26th Division. After the war, the property became Westfield-Barnes Regional Airport, which is still operational today.
